In support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Battle Creek Fire and Police Departments teamed up with Pink Ribbon Riders for a second year in a row in an effort to raise money for the cause.

          Pink Ribbon Riders is a small 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides direct financial assistance to local men and women breast cancer patients.

          Joining the Battle Creek Police Department this year with their support was the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, Emmett Twp DPS, Springfield DPS, Battle Creek Fire Department, Michigan Department of Corrections and employees of the City of Battle Creek where participants were allowed to wear their Pink Ribbon Riders t-shirts as part of their daily uniform.

          In addition, citizens were given the opportunity to order shirts with the logo of their choice.

          A total of $1,150 was raised and turned over to Jody McKay, co-founder of Pink Ribbon Riders Monday to help future patients.

          “Pink Ribbon Riders is proud to team with the Battle Creek Police Department and other are agencies,” said McKay. “We have helped more than 200 breast cancer patients in the area with financial assistance.”

          Each person receives $500 in financial assistance for any of their needs.
